Hey he couple a quick notes before we hop into this week's episode, Episode 41 of the global idiot podcast. This week we talk about a couple things that got me fired up. I'm fired up about running. This week, I'm fired up about keto. Just some things you should know. I don't think anybody should do anything they're not comfortable with. I have been running a ton. And I talked about that in this episode, three marathons and four days over 100 miles in the last four days. As you know, I've been running for the last year. So I've been doing a ton of running, this is not a sudden burst. It is a little bit further than normal. And I am definitely feeling it. I feel it tonight at the end of my third marathon in four days. So I'm definitely tired. But again, I'm pushing myself in a way not everybody is capable of you definitely should push yourself to where you feel comfortable. I don't know. I'm already getting on a tangent because there's a lot of background noise in my house does that tight as I'm recording this intro. Anyways, a lot of running a lot of keto. I do it for different reasons, not because they're fads. I also don't run races. So I'm not one of those runners. I'm just a dude that finally kind of took to running at 40 years old. keto works with my body. I'm a big boy, I have a lot of excess poundage. I can burn some more of that off. So I think keto worked for me. I also don't mind not having a carb here and there. It's not always been my motto. I'm a big carb friendly guy, but not right now. Just during keto trying to get into ketosis more often than not, but I keep kicking myself out. It's a weird thing. Talking about the Giants, talk about the Cowboys talk about jets. I love football, talk about the hurricanes, a lot of football, a lot of running a lot of sports on this particular episode. But the big lesson I think is you know, there's a lot of lessons to learn in life. We're learning I'm constantly we're constantly growing and learning throughout life. I finally realized that, you know, I definitely listen to other people I heed advice. I listen, I apply it to my life. I think that is the most valuable lesson you can learn as an adult is that what works for one person may work for you and what works for you may not work for other people. And really finding that balance. Being willing to stay open and listen to your body. Listen to your your heart. Don't listen to those around you all the time but you know when they are trying to reach out in a good way. You know, take that advice as well. Anyways, let's hop into Episode 41 of wobbly a podcast. And here we go back to another episode of lowboy the podcast this weekend episode 41. I am fired up about a lot of things as usual. Probably from keto to running a lot probably. I am fired up about keto Froning the Cowboys are awful. The giants are awful. Miami Hurricanes we're gonna talk about that we're gonna talk about how everybody My house is driving me crazy. Tonight because I'm recording late on a Wednesday I just ran my just for this right third marathon in four days total mileage Yeah, so lots of talk about lots to get into in Episode 41 this week. tons to catch up on so let's just jump into Episode 41 As you can see ever doing a literary decorating behind me. That's a new protein puffs right there. Got a little bit more work to add over there. But yeah, things are coming along new camera or cameras not new old camera. Same camera, different spot location different lights. In the middle of redecorating I am really fired up for today's episode because I'm super tired. I'm exhausted. I for some reason. So to catch up on the happenings of last week of my life. Last week was the regular week finished good. Two episodes, two podcasts but two other little admin things a bunch of new things in the pipeline, getting some things finally settled in together a lot of phone calls last week. And so the weekend comes kids and my wife all go to Miami to visit family Meet the in laws to be specific. As usual I don't go because well for a lot of reasons, but the main reason being I just don't want to I do not enjoy going down to that part of Miami. Everybody lives outside the city. So it is not my favorite place to go in Miami. And all of my sisters or my wife's brothers and sisters are there. Or mom, her dad, her great grandma, her grandma. My daughter's great grandma. Anyways, not my jam. I know better. I know to say, as far away as possible. Sounds like that was the right call according to all the stories that I've heard a lot of drama, I can't handle it. I don't want to handle it. I don't have to handle it. It's not my thing. It's I might be the worst out in the world. I don't care. Call me what you want. In laws is not a thing. I like everybody in groups. No disrespect to the family. I just that's how I best handle everything these days. I just need smaller groups. And I think that works better for me. Which actually brings me to point number two, because I've been thinking about this. This is way off topic already. Two minutes in we're way off topic. I've been toying with the idea of considering a potential move for myself and the family off the east coast for the first time ever. We'll see if it comes true. I'll debate whether I bring it up in this particular episode. But yeah, I am intrigued by my own thoughts that I just recently had, maybe I've been doing too much running. Maybe that's the problem are I'm like I had a breath because I have been running for the last. I mean, I've been running for the last 300 day. 365 days plus. So last Friday, October 6, I believe was Friday. That marked the one year mark since I committed to running every single day. Hit my mark, according to where I was at last week when we talked about it. I you know, I hit 361 out of 360 my days running at least. I think there's about at least five miles. Yeah, I think I think it's been five miles a minimum every day since October 6 of 2022 maybe 361 or 365 days in the calendar year. Anyways, so I hit that mark on Friday, which I was excited about, uh, pleased with, I'm pumped about I really committed to running and I really think it has changed a lot of things for me dramatically. My health is better. My health has been improving since my stroke. I definitely learned that lesson. There's no doubt about that. But yeah, I guess some of the things I've been thinking about recently, as it was coming towards a year mark was how can I adjust my diet now? You know, I am trying keto. I know there are many schools of thought. People have many opinions when it comes to diet and exercise. For me, I've never really tried keto to be honest. And I think it fits with where I'm at physically, mentally. I think it fits with Ms. i It's kind of within the inflammation thing, like I really don't have as much inflammation. But I think it's bigger guy and a runner somebody running every single day I am prone to that. So things like cold showers, and all the rage keto is all the rage. Believe me, I'm not doing any of these things, because they're the hip hop thing. You know, I'm doing them for me because my health aligns with the benefits that I see or I am starting to see and the research behind it. And then I really thought about it like I don't love dessert. I feel like yeah, I've been I've been carb loading a lot in the last year because I was running a ton. So I was eating a lot of carbs. So I thought let's scale that back. I've been seeing that back. And then I was like, Well, I've scaled the back. Now I can kind of cut it out almost, you know, and let's still take it about a month to really learn about keto. Be a little more rigorous with my Keto finally get into ketosis recently, although I got into it and I got right out of it. So we'll see if I can maintain that. But I think for me, just kind of being strategic being you know, thinking about it. All these things just getting my diet right targets are benefiting me. And my overall health and my goals in the long term. That's a pretty serious thing. But anyways, long story short hit that goal last Friday. Family went away, had a big weekend ran 22 miles, or 2022 or 24 on Saturday, and I was like, oh, yeah, I read 24 and a half on Saturday. So I was like, Shit, I could run a marathon on Saturday. So Sunday, I go back out. I'm running a really good one. I'm doing 27.8 miles. Now. Then Monday, I had a doctor's appointment in the morning, so I had to kind of take the morning off. I recovered pretty well. Got a good night's sleep. Big on that now. All these things. Got another 24 ish on Monday. Yesterday ran a marathon. Like I got 26.9 ish yesterday. So yeah, hi, I'm way overboard. And now is Wednesday, October 11. When I'm recording this in the evening, as you can see, it's the usual daytime behind me are the lights, a lot of camera, a lot of action going on. And always in the background, but I'm still recording because I'm just pumped up about the fact that I have run now that just finished my third marathon of the week. Not trying to do anything, I'm not trying to be like anybody else. I just realized, you know, I've been steadily increasing my mileage over the last year plus now. And believe me, I know. This is I sound like one of those runners, I assure you, I am not. I don't run races. I don't care about races, I run my own races, everyone in the neighborhood I run on the treadmill, some kind of combination, depending on the day, week time and whether you know, I don't run 26.2 miles straight through. Obviously, if I'm doing some indoors at the gym, I have to drive to the gym. I mean, that may not be obvious to everybody. But yet my gym is a little bit far. It's not even that far, but it's just yeah, it's down the highway a little bit. So you got to get in the car to do go drive to the gym. I try to do a mix. I try to do majority outside I prefer to do outside running. I do like the treadmill for me because it helps me. You know, stay. It's hard to explain. But let's say on track, it just helps me Quicken my speed and pay attention in a different way than I run outdoors. I think that has a lot to do with MS and stroke recovery. You know, being that everything's a little bit different than it used to be before my stroke. So yeah, it's all very helpful. It's all good stuff. I enjoy it. Yeah, one of the things again, I talked about this on the other show a lot. One of the things I realized as a stroke survivor, I can handle doing mundane boring things, not because I love it because I know now I know how good the payoff is if you can do hard things if you can do mundane things. So yeah, I'm really fired up about you know, hitting that mileage. It's a lot of miles Yes. Is it for everybody? Absolutely not. But I think you know, to really my big thing with running is getting in better shape to get better advantage of that second chance of life. I know it sounds ridiculous again, it's not for everybody. I don't every time I say I'm going to scale back the running ICS or ramp up the running my biggest thing about running is I like I like that I can justify the shoe purchases. Do I run in a hoodie in Florida? Yes I do you better believe it I am fresh off the run I do not this hoodie. hoodie is just gonna be where are brands that are particular to begin tall dudes. So you see me wear a lot of Under Armour you see me wear a lot of Puma you see we wear a lot of this brand. These are the three big three big brands that really make nice well fitting big and tall hoodies because I realized at a certain point in my life even though I'm not on the bigger side anymore, you know I am tall and I'm just tired of like shrinking hoodies and chugging them down all the time. I've been doing it my whole life. So I finally realized that I'm just gonna buy big and tall stuff and I'm going to support the brands that support big dudes. So that said a lot of similar brands in that field. That area I tried to do with my clothing brand. You know, but that is hard to do with a predominantly and company. But you know, it's not something that I yeah, I did something we'll get back to it's just something that I'm kind of redefining with that particular brand. That's becoming more of a lifestyle. Less of a clothing brands. So that's gonna be what that'll be going forward. But again, brands like Under Armour on this one I think Reebok Puma champion they all are beer brands that support them big and tall, which I'm a fan of obviously being a bigger and taller guy myself. Yeah, again, sidetracked but so yeah, I'm exhausted. I'm tired, but I feel great. I feel. Listen, I don't want to push anybody into anything. I don't. Please make your own informed choices when it comes to running when it comes to diet and exercise. Yes, I should be doing more lifting. But also a much bigger guy. So the cardio and the fitness I ignored it for way too long. What I like to get back into the middle and do more weight training. Absolutely. I have been doing it just not as rigorous as I want to. Because I still believe I can kind of lean down and probably drop another 20 pounds at a minimum before I really start pounding the weights hard you know, but that's that's, that's always evolving. And if I ever slow down running, that will change as well. So yeah, besides running marathons the new hot thing for me. What else? We got a little bit football over the weekend. So good college James got tired of watching Notre Dame on Saturday nights. Thankfully, that's come to an end. Thankfully, Louisville beat them on Saturday night. The good thing about Alabama not playing that. Well this year is they're also not on TV as often. Which is a big plus in my book. This Saturday. Well, this Saturday was going to be a good game, but the Miami Hurricanes you know, my my my foreign school, my former team. My my alumni card and status are for the EU. And what happened on Saturday night this past weekend was honestly I agree a little bit with crystal ball. You know, we're not really a ticket knee team. But you got to be kidding me like, I mean, come on. The games wrapped up we've come back to it's already kinda like is this weird game where Georgia Tech always plays us really tighten credit close. We always struggle with Georgia Tech even though they're really not a good historically good football team or football program in general. I don't know what it is last 15 years we just had this thing right. And to lose that way and that fashion just I don't even know what to say like I'm I'm beyond bed but I'm so mad and it's Wednesday. Five days later five days since the last like it's really honestly like you've seen it. You've probably seen it if you watch ESPN, you watch any of the you know different sports shows on YouTube on television or on whatever whatever shoe platform whoever is talking about it it's just bad it's bad all around and bad for the school. It's bad for you know, it doesn't make alumni happy. It certainly doesn't meet make me as a former alumni or gets a current alumni former student. It doesn't make me happy. I already hate that we play in Dolphin stadium and I've been playing there for like 1314 years like I'd love to see the hurricanes. Build a stadium somewhere near campus. It doesn't have to be the or old Orange of all but you know, the Marlins really haven't ever done much with that stadium. I mean, I think there are spots in Miami that we could have a stadium I don't know why it won't happen I'm sure it has to do with the lovely political landscape of Miami It is a fantastic place it is a great city sunny place shady people never ceases to amaze me so yeah, you asked the student the student body the alumni you know who live on probably a lot live in Florida but not everybody but I think you know I'm I'm willing to go to games are willing to travel of the student body is a smaller student body. It's not a Public School and the University of Miami is a private institution because it's shipped on a Monday the other end for that I think, you know, we all expect a good experience as fans as and you get that as part of 77 grand a year. There's no doubt about it. You get up Get automatically into the games as students. It's a bit of a hike. But it's hard to go on that hike when it's a losing program, we're obviously not a losing program. But that game the other day puts us way back, we're still in the top 25, we're ranked 25. We play North Carolina this weekend. And again, I'm getting on a high horse, but like this, this that is something that doesn't need to happen to a program that is after probably 15 615, almost 20 fucking years of like, really trying to get back to good football. Because by the time I left, it was really not good. Then it wasn't good for a decade, and we were kind of good. You know, and we're getting better. And we got good team good transfers, good coaching. But that was just an all around collapse. And to watch it happen is just my daughter brought up an interesting point, which I don't think I've heard it on ESPN or any other shows is you know, and I'm gonna say because she said it and I was like, I don't think I've heard that from anybody. Like, where'd you come up with that juicy on Tiktok or something? She's like, No, I just I feel like that's what happened. And she thinks that perhaps there was some betting on the game. And you know, Chris wall has done this now twice. He did that at Oregon. A couple years ago. He did it now in Miami. I'm not accusing. I'm just saying it is perplexing why that would happen. Bit of a gamble but like it's not even that we fumbled like that part makes sense. kind of you know, that happens. That was a poor choice. The fumble can happen is the is that just a fumble, it's a fumble and then it's the touchdown where the books like the players just like totally gave the fuck up. And let that guy for the quarterback for Georgia SEC throw it all the way down the field and lose the game for Miami. They just I mean, there is Yeah, I guess in the moment it's our Excel but like it just looks that they like they weren't even trying to play that play all the way through so it's not just the fumble that was obviously a terrible call. Shouldn't have that. We don't need to discuss that. I think we know that coulda shoulda woulda, but that play at the end where they just throw it up in the air and he catches a wide open ball and there's like five hurricanes around there like somebody could have played a one on five people could have tried a little harder I think and they just doesn't catch it and just walks in and the game's over and hurricanes lose a game they should have won. Just honestly on on fucking believable is what it is. I can't and so my daughter brought this up, but it's a curious thought. You know, Miami, not the greatest track record when I was there, nothing for his track record at Crozer. Lot of again, Sunny bleh shady people weird things happened in Miami. And although I don't think it's a case, necessarily, it was a really interesting point that she brought up to me because I was like, huh, I hadn't really thought about that, like the I mean, whatever the payoff would be, the upside wouldn't be worth it really. Because the reality is winning the game and going five in a row and continuing to build the program back to where it should and could be right now. The payoff is better. So yeah, I don't actually believe it. But it was just an interesting points you brought up. I thought honestly for 20 soon to be 21 year old female college student who enjoys football, enjoyed watching Clemson she still enjoys watching Clemson. She enjoys watching the hurricanes and she was down there this weekend as she was watching it and I actually I thought maybe one of my my brother in law's said something to her. But no, she came up this theory and it's you know, again, I don't think it's true, but it's it's an interesting thought for not having heard it very much. I really haven't heard it at all besides her. So yeah. That was that was super gross. Yeah. So yeah, why am I talking about the Cowboys? That a good point? That's a good question. Oh, they look awful. Cowboys. I'm not a fan don't care. The only thing I enjoy. I enjoyed about the football. The NFL this weekend was the Jets winning over the Broncos. I thought it was good for Nathaniel Hackett. Good for the Jets. Good. Zach Wilson. Really like you know, I'm not a Jets fan. But I'm not not a Jets fan. I just have a Giants fan. So when you grew up in Jersey See in New York and you're a Giants fan, you just kind of default to hate the Jets. But really, I don't care because I'm older and I don't care them I just like giving crap to my buddy back at home because we again we have one friend who is a Jets fan everybody else is a Giants fan. So really there's no dislike for the Jets. It's just my buddy giving him a hard time for the last 2530 years. So yeah, it was good to see the Jets win against the Broncos because I really nothing I enjoy more than hating on the jets and somebody giving it to somebody else. And then, you know, Sean Payton had lots to say about Daniel Hackett and they, you know, handily beat the Broncos last Sunday so that was fun to watch. I did not watch the game. So the clips taught us all the highlights. Russell Wilson continues to struggle which is a very interesting I have thoughts on that but I don't know how to articulate them into this episode. Let's just say I'm not the biggest Russell Wilson fan and yeah, we can leave it at that for now because I've already collected my thoughts on that. But I just It's interesting what's happening out in Denver with the Broncos because I think myself and others have really had a pretty high expectations and they are they are not playing well. That is for sure. The Giants love my giants, but they also look awful, as I suspected they would against the dolphins. So I was not terribly surprised nor disappointed. Daniel Jones continues to frustrate me beyond belief. Don't know what to say about that. Honestly, I just I guess when he liked Eli, what Eli first started with giants. He definitely had a rough go. But he eventually got it together and honestly now I love Eli. So not saying it can't happen for Daniel Jones. But like Eli develop the personality over time like he's still made dumb faces. But to be honest, so to Peyton so did sort of a lot of quarterbacks to get a lot out there on this throw. They're on TV, they're on there. They're in front of the cameras a lot. They're guaranteed to make tons of dumb faces. I'm sure if we saw more NFL player faces we'd see a lot more dumb faces a lot of the time. So yeah, I just love Stan Jones and the Giants kind of get it together. They I know they're going to have a tougher season this season because they played pretty well last year. And I think it's like yeah, there's going to be a seven day made to soar last year one step backward this year. Say Quan being hurt is a little frustrating. I get it, it'd be nice to see them kind of rally together. Save the season. Hopefully I don't overlap and you know, just seeing them play better, I think would be nice. I have a ton of thoughts on giants because obviously they're having a tough go. They are my team. I want to give them shipped but I also want to Yeah, I just want to see them kind of get together. But the Cowboys you know I love Steven A on. On he has been in the mornings on a weekday mornings. And I love that he hates cowboy fans because I dislike cowboy fans. Cowboy fans are my least favorite fans. Do not like cowboys, very vocal about that. As many giant fans will also attest to they are not cowboy fans. So nothing made me happier than watching Sunday football and watching the San Francisco 40 Niners absolutely crushed the Cowboys. And here's the thing. I don't even think I dislike cowboys. I'm even just like Jerry Jones. He's kind of entertaining for a NFL owner. Cowboys are not honestly terrible. I do love how much crap Dak gets and it's not even the Cowboys like it's the cowboy fans that make me dislike the Cowboys. It actually has nothing to do with our players. Nothing to do with their coaches. Like I wouldn't think anything about them if they didn't have the most annoying fans in the world. So yeah, cowboy fans are the reason I disliked cowboys. They are obviously the reason I moved against the Cowboys when the Cowboys aren't playing well. It is nothing to do with the actual players. Michael Parsons is a beast. You know I Dak is not the most exciting but he's he's a good reliable quarterback like I listen, if he asked me Do I want Dak over Daniel Jones I'd rather have Dak There's a lot of quarterbacks headed over Daniel Jones if I'm being honest, that's a Giants fan. See, that gets his fair. You know, I think he makes his fair share mistakes. But uh yeah, I think that just hits our time because he is the guy a Cowboys quarterback. It's not dissimilar from playing in New York or for the Giants or the Jets, you get a lot of the limelight you get a lot of the spotlight, for better or worse. It just makes those situations tough feel. But the alternative I know people who play for the browns, you they go to the browns and never hear of him ever again. You know, there's pluses and minuses for each and every team I think that that NFL quarterbacks play for. It's an interesting dynamic. But yeah, let's see what else this week talking about running Quito, Miami, the Cowboys, the Giants jets. What is going on? That is interesting. Oh, I forgot to mention the last week because I think because last week I recorded 16 times to do one episode. So to Wakefield, I can't remember I talked about it on the episode last week. But I just wanted to circle back because Tim Wakefield was you know I I forget what should have looked it up. I know we just passed away he was a I know a lot of people who are friends of mine who watch and listen to this podcast are Yankee fans, but I think we can all kind of respect. Tim Wakefield he played for Pittsburgh, you might have played for somebody else. He also played for Boston for a long time. Famous knuckleballer passed away a couple weeks ago. But he he was a pitcher that I really admired as a kid because he threw the knuckleball, he's the reason I started throwing the ball as a kid. I was a pitcher when I played baseball, kind of from like age five through eighth grade. I didn't continue on in high school because I went to playing high school golf. But um, yeah, he just he was a somebody that brought together I remember learning about Tim Wakefield from my grandfather, friend, my father. And the three of us, you know, we all have the same name. I'm well the third my son as well before. So like, that was kind of one of those ties for my grandfather or father and I, that was baseball. For a lot of while my grandfather was alive. And yeah, Tim, Tim Wakefield is influenced my baseball because I was a pitcher, I played catcher in first base, all the more active positions for big guys. But I had a pretty decent fastball in my youth. Not amazing given how big I am now, and how much it could have been probably solid nonetheless. And I enjoyed pitching and I never could master the curveball at age for probably a variety of reasons. But I found that knuckleball, and it was something that I took to because it was something that a lot of people could not do. Which has always been my jam. I always enjoyed doing the weird things in sports that other people either couldn't figure out or couldn't do, like I was a long snapper in football, which is a pretty unique position. Now a lot of people you know, I used to snap the ball so hard and fast so that I could knock the punter over 15 yards back, and that snapping the ball upside down through your legs, which is a pretty unique skill. Not a lot of people could do it. And in fact, I was doing it with my son last week. And he's like, ah, that's easy. I could do that Dad. You could do it at all. It was amazing. Yeah, so it's not that easy. Shockingly, I could still do it even after my stroke. Not as well as I used to be able to, but I bet I can do it with a little practice. I bet I could be long snapping in no time. Very quick amount of time. I was actually oddly surprised and pleasantly surprised now being 40. I'm like that I still do it. And I'm a stroke survivor. And a little bit of practice, and I bet I could probably knock a truck over. Or at least the garbage can. Anyways, so that is totally cool. Just you said to see because he was I guess he was in his late 50s mid mid to late 50s. Yeah, that was just always a fan of Wakefield and is pitching style and the knuckleball, of course. And they influenced his head on me and just kind of us just seemed like a solid guy and a solid pitcher and reliable. Then knuckleball was wild. I mean I when I really started to learn as I got, you know, six 7/8 grade as I started to throw it more competently. It was something that nobody ever saw coming, which is something I always gravitated towards and kind of love because you know I could throw pretty fast and I was a big guy. So People knew I was gonna throw something fairly quickly. But then you come up with that knuckleball, and it threw everybody off. You know, but it's it's a risky pitch because, you know, there's definitely times where you throw it and you, you make what you think is a calculated risk throwing it and somebody just gets a hold of it. And, you know, somebody by gets a hold of it and knows it's coming or you know, just sees it well. It can be perplexing to hitters and it is supposed to be but yeah, they get a hold of it. It's basically like a very slow you know, batting practice, speed pitch when you throw it so you typically see people throwing it be beyond perfect. Even in the pros. I think he was only throwing it maybe. I mean, it drops to your speed it almost in half. So if you're throwing around 90, you know, that knuckle balls gonna be 50s 60s if I recall, it's been a long time since that throw or knuckle ball on the radar gun. But uh, yeah, it is not quick. That is for sure. So if somebody gets ahold of it on the right day and time, or the right batter and the right bet, it's very weather, you know, it's just, yeah. It's very difficult pitch to throw. It's a very difficult pitch to hit. But it also does not come without risk. Yeah, so. Um, but yeah, I just always I just remember fondly Tim Wakefield. And of course, when he played for the Red Sox, he was part of those championship teams. Again, I'm sure my Yankee fan friends would hate it. But I think we can all agree. Tim Wakefield was one of the more unique pitchers in baseball, definitely growing up, even into the 2000s as you're getting older and away at school. You know, I don't think yeah, doesn't matter what your team affiliation is. I think a lot of people could respect the Wakefield pitching ability and this style he brought to the game that he just doesn't seem like an all around good guy. And it's always sad to see when somebody has something like that, where you it's outside of normal, normal circumstances or control, a brain tumor, brain cancer, that kind of thing is rough go. Strangely enough, I have a neighbor in my neighborhood who has also has brain again, a brain tumor. I think he has brain cancer. So it's, it's, it's wild. It's wild to watch, especially because I had his thing happened right around the time my things 2019 2020 I think has happened a couple of months, maybe right at the start or just after the start of COVID. And so he's doing well, but it is kind of tough to watch. Because you see, he's got kids and you know, he just I feel for him, because he's a he's a neighbor. And honestly, we never became close friends. Because I went through my thing. He went through a phase thing. We never really got together and we see each other around, but just not never develop that relationship. But it's yeah, something I always want anybody to go through that and especially anybody's family that's got to be difficult to watch. Definitely difficult to adjust to. And again, with brain cancer and brain tumors, it's the the percentage of those who survive long term is pretty sadly, pretty low. But anyways, enough sadness for this show. Let's see. What else can we talk about? Trying to think I had some notes. I did a really bad outline for this week. I thought I'd talk a lot more about running. I could talk about you know, I'm actually surprised. A little I don't miss carbs. But again, that's because I don't really like desserts. I was limiting a lot of things. Having pretty good success with it again, I don't think it's for everybody. You know, I'm doing a lot more. One I actually just watch two bears. The podcast who bears mancave Bert Tom's podcast. It's funny. I have these podcasts. I'm always talking about other people's podcasts, but I watched a lot of podcasts. And they had a Tom had experts on tours. So Tom had a guest host Elaine, Elaine Norton, one that you've never heard of. But he's a or maybe I have heard of him, but like I just heard of him passing but he's Yeah, he debunks a lot of myths. And he just seems like a really kind of level headed like, fitness guy. You know, he's definitely probably grouped into the humans and Peter, Tia and all those longevity and health and fitness and Tim Ferriss and all those guys. I can appreciate anybody in the health fitness space. That is what I liked about Layne Norton I like about him from what I know so far is that he seems to just take the information, present some facts, he was very knowledgeable in what I saw on the show, and that he's, you know, he said, This is good. This is also good. What he does is he takes all the research and because sometimes a lot of things, and I've realized this myself as a stroke survivor, like, there are great studies are great research studies. But some of them are a certain way. Because you know, when you take all the facts and all parts of the equation, and you make a case, like the hypothesis isn't wrong, and the information isn't wrong. But I think what I was, was what I'm starting to gather, and what I've always gathered is that, like, you can interpret anything a certain way and skew it a certain way if you want to. But I always appreciate when somebody's just like, here's what's happened. Here's 10, here's what we tested. Here's what we tried, here's how we controlled things as strictly as possible. And these were the results. It was a really good episode, especially if you're into health and fitness. You know, because Tom Sagara was obviously a burger guy. I remember always doing health things. Because, yeah, for obvious reasons, I think we're all probably anybody who's older, or been through a thing, or had a life event or had a stroke, or had a diagnosis something or used to smoke and now no longer smokes, but wants to take health and fitness a little bit more serious, because it might be getting older. And you know, I think that's a natural thing for a lot of us. But what I really liked is that, yeah, there's just a lot of good information with a Norton. And again, it's like, some of the things some of the takeaways was like, any diet will work, if you stick with it, right. And the thing about keto, for me is like, I'm just trying it because I'm like, Okay, how can I refine what I'm doing? Like, I just ran three marathons in four days. I mean, I ran over 100 miles and last four days. So I'm running every day, I feel good. The things that I'm seeing as a result of release, like, again, I start I, the takeaway from me, small steps, I always say it on the other show. These small steps over time build up, you get momentum, you get positive reinforcement, small steps, make action more or doable, or more. It just builds that momentum for me. And I just, it's so weird, because I feel like I feel like I've always known this. We always hear it but until you really do it for yourself. You start to see results and like, like the running thing. Fuck man, I couldn't even run a mile last year. You know, in September of last year, September 22, could barely run a mile. I think I was just starting to work up over miles during the run, walk. And now we're October of 23. And I just ran three marathons of four days. Like that is insane. And again, it's not for everybody and my wife. This is one of the things I really hate when it comes to health, fitness and exercise. I want to I want to preach this from the mountaintop like I don't. She's like, Do you think that's too much? I'm like, if I thought it was too much, I wouldn't do it. Like, I didn't survive a stroke and live with MS and do all these things to change my life and my lifestyle. Like I'm not gonna go run to get hurt. I do run slow. I don't run six minute miles. I can't even I would love to. I'm working on that. But like, I run slow and steady. I've finally learned slow and steady is what works best for me. That's how I can go so far. And yes, I spend a lot of fucking time running because if you want to go slow and steady, it takes more time. But because I go slow and steady, I can go for longer. I can recover better. I'm not getting hurt. And if I hurt, I'm not going to I'm just going to see the take the day off or significantly scale back until I feel better. But I haven't gotten hurt yet. Fingers crossed. But I am also really trying hard to be smart about how I run how I eat, how I see power recover how I exercise. How I break up my workday. You know I have a very weird workday. You always see me in a sweaty hoodie because I'm usually Working, running, working, running like it's not that is insane. But when you work for yourself, you work from home, you have the opportunity to go to the gym very locally, run outside for an hour to come back in, sit down, do this, do that. Change clothes, take a shower, change socks, like I just, I can do the things that work for me. So my other big takeaway from the Layne Norton and I'm gonna recommend this podcast episode, it's the latest to Where's one cave, Episode tanzu, online new Norton, but But you have to do what's right for you. Only you know that. And don't let other people influence you to the point where you're not taking any action. Again, if I ever really got hurt in the last year, because I decided to run too hard or too fast, I would have scaled it back I wouldn't, I wouldn't continue to run through pain. The only pain that I'm willing to do a little bit is a little bit of and I will admit to this. Because I'm still a bigger guy I'm so 300 pounds, six foot eight runner, like, I've made some mistakes with shoes. Sometimes I like today, I'll be clear, I wear shoes today that are predominantly for the trail probably should not have run a full 27.9 miles in trail shoes for more than half my day, and my toes are probably going to pay the price. So I'll probably scale back tomorrow. But my point is, listen to what you think is best for you. Don't listen to what other people tell you. Take what people tell you. Take that information, process it. Go over it, read it, learn from it. Utilize the parts that you think are best for you take away your takeaways don't let other people tell you what take away things that drives me fucking crazy. Because I do agree with Layne Norton like I think there are a variety of diets, some work for different body types. Something that works for somebody that's 140 pounds and five foot two is going to be a very different approach for me. Because I'm I'm two and a half of those people like the reality is that six foot eight and 300 pounds are not a lot of people that can tell me this absolutely works for you because they're not they're not even close to me and physical size or stature. They've also partly aren't a strokes are they probably don't have Ms. Like, I don't know, like, I get so fired up about this. And I apologize because I thought this was really a lovely idea podcasts. And you know, this is lovely and fired up. And this is where I'm fired up about I just I believe so strongly in doing what's best for yourself. You have to know yourself. If you're not sure, then yes, you need to either assess where you're at and what you want to do in life and where you want to go or find people that will help you get there. In assisting you, I guess is what I'm saying. Some people could do it on their own. Some people like to do it on their own. Some people like assistance. It's no different than coaching. That's why coaches are great. Whether it's life or whether it's sports. I know. People don't think life coaching is the best. Some people have different opinions on that. Obviously I've done it in the past. I think it's I think it's worthwhile, but it's not for everybody. And I know that because I've worked with all types of people. Some people really work and respond some people just need that kick of butts. Some people just need some accountability. And some people don't need it at all, but that's fine. Those people you know, they're looking elsewhere they're doing their own thing, and that there's nothing wrong with any of the approaches. No different people work differently. Anyways, going along. I'm gonna end this episode. Yes, where can you find me think global on x the globe on Instagram. Tik Tok. You can find the YouTube channel for the other podcasts. I haven't gotten this one going.
